Iran plans to build LNG carriers
Iran is planning to undertake the construction of LNG carriers. An official in Sadra Company said, “French technology is employed in the manufacture of the vessels and grounds are paved for manufacturing 300,000 dwt oil tankers as well as 150,000 cubic metre LNG carriers.” There would be a requirement for five LNG tankers to enter service by 2009.
The most likely shipyard is the ISOICO Persian Gulf Shipbuilder based in Bandar Abbas which is currently constructing handysize product tankers and feeder container ships for domestic shipowners.
