BMT transforms maritime simulation
A development kit unlocking the modeling expertise that has placed British Maritime Technology Ltd (BMT) at the forefront of manoeuvring simulation software for nearly three decades was unveiled today by BMT SeaTech Ltd, a subsidiary of BMT.
The launch of the Manoeuvring Engine Software Development Kit (MeSDK) heralds a step-change in the quality, flexibility and cost-effectiveness of ship-handling training, vessel familiarisation and port evaluation studies. This unprecedented move means that BMT?s world-leading mathematical modeling capabilities will no longer be confined to its own PC Rembrandt manoeuvring simulator, but available to any worldwide customer wishing to incorporate this capability into their own simulator software, either PC-based or as part of a full bridge mission simulator.
This is the first time that the marine industry will have access to proven, fully validated, cross-platform mathematical models regardless of what simulation tool or application they are using.
The MeSDK will enable third parties to fully utilise all the features of BMT?s mathematical models including every available control device configuration (including conventional and podded propellers, lateral thruster units and high lift rudders). Environmental conditions will also be able to be simulated ranging from wind, tide and spatial currents through to bank and harbour wall effects, shallow water effects and wave drift effects.
Gwynne Lewis, Operations Director, BMT SeaTech, said: “The launch of the MeSDK establishes, for the first time, the opportunity for accurate, consistent and proven cross-system simulation training together with access to BMT?s existing database of over 150 vessels. The benefit to the industry at large is better quality simulations over a broader range of applications, improved accuracy and reduced cost.”
“Manufacturers of full bridge mission simulators will be able to utilise BMT?s ?plug and play? mathematical models to augment their existing capabilities and also to take advantage of BMT?s considerable ?in house? hydrodynamics expertise,” adds Gwynne Lewis.
Ship owners who have already had their specific ship mathematically modelled by BMT SeaTech for use on PC Rembrandt will no longer have to pay for the whole model to be recreated for use on a full bridge mission simulator. PC Rembrandt v4 ship models are fully compatible with those supplied for use on the MeSDK.
