STX and SAM to cooperate

STX Engine, the affiliated company of STX Corporation in South Korea which owns STX Shipbuilding, has selected SAM Electronics as preferred partner for supply and integration of navigation and communication systems.

Under the agreement which will be valid from March this year to March 2008 and will commence in 2006, STX is to incorporate SAM Electronics? navigation and communications facilities aboard all vessels under construction at its associate STX Shipbuilding Busan and Changwon yards as well as others in South Korea and Asia.

STX Engine said that the purpose of the agreement is to add navigation and communication equipment to existing BMS (Bridge Manoeuvring System) and AMS (Alarm Monitoring System) and enter new market. Key components to be supplied by SAM Electronics include radar, AIS, GPS and VDR systems together with other sensors and support software. They will be assembled by STX as part of total main engine-driven shipborne packages which include automated bridge manoeuvring and machinery alarm and monitoring systems already being supplied by SAM Electronics as part of a similar collaborative venture concluded two years ago.

The new agreement will ensure fully customised solutions adapted to the specific needs of STX Shipbuilding customers and will also include enhanced technical and service support together with professional training programmes for navigation personnel.
