Rembrandt chosen for NCL

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has invested in PC Rembrandt, the latest development in ship-handling and manoeuvring simulation. Developed by BMT SeaTech Ltd, a subsidiary of British Maritime Technology (BMT), PC Rembrandt Version 4 has been installed on-board NCL?s Pride of Aloha and is set to be fitted on-board the Pride of America.

BMT SeaTech staff travelled to the Pride of Aloha to undertake the software?s installation and the validation of the complex mathematical model with the Master and Staff Captain of the vessel. All the bridge officers then received one-to-one training and familiarisation in the operation and use of the system.

Following the systems? installation the ship?s staff captain reported: “This is a fantastic piece of equipment, which will aid the deck officers in developing their bridge team management and piloting skills for Hawaii?… We are extremely happy with the system, as it has received a large amount of usage already.”

The latest version of PC Rembrandt, released last year at the SeaTrade Cruise Convention, boasts enhanced 3D visuals and an expanded mathematical model, allowing for the accurate simulation of the manoeuvring of any vessel under a range of environmental conditions. It will be used by NCL as a ship handling training tool for their junior officers and also to provide the more senior officers with the means to simulate and rehearse more complex manoeuvres.
