Samsung high on gas carriers
Samsung has recently increased its LNG order book with orders from ChevronTexaco and a Japanese shipping company. The US oil major has placed a contract for two plus two dual fuel 155,000 cbm gas carriers while the Japanese company ordered a similar vessel. Deliveries of these 285 metre long ships will start from July 2009, and the total value including options is $1 billion. The Korean shipbuilder now has a backlog of 34 LNG carriers, which makes it the largest builder of this type of vessel in the world.
ChevronTexaco plans to order another 20 LNG carriers in the near future.
