Chinese shipbuilders expand

Xiamen Shipbuilding in China has started to build a new 80,000DWT shipbuilding berth at a cost of $20 million. Due for completion during 2006, it will enable Xiamen to build at least 600,000DWT per year.

In addition, two dry docks in Zhoushan, China, will be operational from August this year. A consortium of Yongyue Shipping in Zhejiang and a company in Hong Kong invested $80 million to build a 300,000DWT dry dock measuring 350m in length and 65m in width and a 100,000DWT dry dock of 251m in length and 39m in breadth. Water depth is more than 20m.
