Asry plans expansion

Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard (Asry) is to embark on a $15 million expansion, adding three more dry berths to its facilities in Hidd., Bahrain. The new berths, each 140 metres long, would greatly enhance Asry capability in repairing ships of all kinds.

The expansion, which now has the approval of the board of directors and awaits the nod of the general assembly, means that Asry would be able to accommodate many more smaller and medium-sized vessels, leaving larger berths for super-tankers and larger ships. The recommendation now goes to the general assembly for approval in three weeks’ time. Once that happens, the new berths would be ready to receive ships in 18 months’ time.
