Qatar LNG order confirmed

The order for 12 LNG tankers for Teekay Shipping and the so-called J5 consortium of MOL, NYK, K Line, Mitsui and Iino, which we reported as “tentatively won” on 14 June, has now been confirmed under contracts valued at close to $3bn.

Teekay will have four vessels from Samsung while the J5 consortium will take five from Daewoo and three from Hyundai. All are believed to be of 210,000m3 and scheduled for delivery during 2008. They will be operated on behalf of Qatar Gas Transport to carry LNG to the USA.
