DFDS orders roro duo

DFDS has signed a 10-year time-charter deal with an option on a further three years for two ro-ro vessels with Macoma Shipping Ltd. The vessels will be built at the Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing, China, and delivered late 2007 and early 2008, respectively.

Both vessels have a capacity of 3,343 lane metres, are well-suited for heavy loads of paper and will be deployed on DFDS Tor Line’s ?Anglo Bridge South? route between Gothenburg and Tilbury, UK. They will sail under the UK flag and have a service speed of 20 knots.

As part of a contract entered into with StoraEnso, DFDS Tor Line will transport 800,000 tons of paper per annum on the route from 1 July 2005. The new vessels will replace two of DFDS Tor Line’s Italian-built vessels with a capacity of 2,800 lane metres each, effectively increasing capacity on the route by approximately 20%. The route has three weekly departures in each direction.
