World class patrol vessel for India
The Indian Coast Guard has received a new patrol vessel, built at Goa Shipyard, named ?ICG Kasturba Gandhi? and is claimed to be the fastest of its type in the world. The 48 metre long ship has a displacement of 260 tonnes and is capable of cruising at a speed of 35 knots by means of a water jet propulsion system.
Primarily designed for maritime patrolling, anti-smuggling, anti-terrorist operations, fisheries protection and, search and rescue operations, it can also support the Navy during wartime as a coastal convoy escort.
