Container screening device developed

Electronic Sensor Technology, Inc., has developed a new technique for screening cargo containers. To date, the most reliable way to search for illicit materials in cargo containers is by manual inspection and, partly because of the time-consuming nature of this procedure, very few containers (less than 4% of the 6 million containers/year) are even examined.

Dr. Edward S. Staples, the Chief Scientist of Electronic Sensor Technology, will be presenting a paper at the 7th World Congress of Chemical Engineers in Glasgow, Scotland, on July 14, 2005 describing the zNose technology and its role in screening cargo containers. This technology enhances the ability of shippers to meet security requirements under Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) and Container Security Initiatives (CSI) programs.
