NGV Tech secures Indian contract

The Malaysian shipbuilder, NGV Tech Sdn Bhd, has secured a contract worth about $1.8 million to build two passenger vessels for the Union Territory of Lakshadweep Administration Kavaratty in India. The two 18 metre aluminium vessels would cater for 20 passengers in economy class and 15 passengers in business class.

A spokesman for the shipbuilder said the contract to build the vessels was issued by a government-backed shipping company, The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd (SCI), which would manage the contract on behalf of Lakshadweep Administration. NGV Tech, which would start building the ships this month, had been given 11 months to deliver the vessels.

NGV Tech recently completed three units of 22.5-metre high speed patrol vessels and three units of work boats for the Coast Guard Authority of Yemen at a cost of $6.3 million. NGV Tech is currently negotiating with several countries in the Middle East including Kuwait for shipbuilding contracts.
