NACKS, the Chinese shipbuilder, recently won approval from the government on the construction of a 500,000DWT dry dock and work is scheduled to start in the autumn on this $247 million project.

When the new VLCC dock is completed in 2008, it will produce 1.54 million DWT per annum giving NACKS a total annual capacity of 2 million DWT. The new dry dock will be able to build post-Panamax class container ships, large car carrier, VLCCs and large Capesize bulkers.
