Weihai starts expansion
Weihai Shipyard in China has commenced construction work to expand its shipbuilding and ship repair facilities. The work will be carried out in two stages at a cost of $222 million.
The first stage involves the building of a 50,000DWT and a 10,000dwt newbuilding dry dock, a 100,000dwt dock for ship repair and an extension to the current 300,000dwt repair dock. When the first stage is completed, annual shipbuilding capacity will increase to 300,000dwt.
In the second stage, a 200,000dwt newbuilding dry dock and a 300,000dwt ship repair dock will be constructed which will further increase the yard?s annual newbuilding output to 1 million dwt.
