Cummins upgrades support base

Marine engine distributor Cummins Diesel SA has launched the first phase of a coast-to-coast programme to expand and upgrade its maritime industry support base. An enlarged customer service and fast-reaction support operation, based in Cape Town and headed by a Cummins-qualified marine engineer, will eventually be targeting the entire South Africa, Namibia and Mozambique coastlines, says Garth Bryson, Regional Manager: Industrial Business Unit, of Cummins Diesel SA.

“Cummins has been listening to its customers, and it?s clear from what we have heard from them is that they require a dedicated marine customer backup operation which is fast and mobile and which goes a step further than the service they have been getting from us in the past. This is what we are giving them.”

Among the upgraded services which Cummins is bringing to coastal and port operations ? commercial and recreational ? is the appointment of Vernon Meyer, a specialist marine engine technician who will be solely engaged in marine work. Meyer is being equipped with fast-response service vehicle which will allow him initially to cover a wide coastal

territory in the Western and Eastern Cape. Bryson says Cummins is already planning further phases of the expanded service stretching thousands of kilometers from Walvis Bay, in Namibia, on the west coast to Nacala in Mozambique on the Indian Ocean side.

Meyer will be providing routine technical support and consulting, new engine sales, and the installation and commissioning of Cummins, Cummins MerCruiser Diesel, and Onan products for propulsion and auxiliary purposes.
