China ratifies Changxing shipyard

The Chinese government recently ratified the construction of Changxing shipyard, the $3.6 billion shipbuilding complex at the mouth of the Yangtze river which will triple Shanghai?s shipbuilding capacity. First stage of the plan for the new facility is to build four dry docks, 9 outfitting quays of 2,926m and a material quay of 500m. Particulars of the dry docks are 520 x 76m, 580 x 106m, 580 x 120m and 365 x 82m.

When the first stage is completed, the facility will have a newbuilding capacity of 4.5 million DWT.
