Two superspeed Color ferries for Aker
Color Line has signed a Letter of Intent with Aker Yards for the building of two new ships for delivery in 2007 and 2008 respectively. These ships represent a new type of transport solution and are to be put into service between Norway and Denmark in a new concept called “Color Line Superspeed”. The Letter of Intent also includes a specified design assignment for a cruise ship for delivery in the spring of 2009. This week marked the start-up of steel production at the Aker Turku yard in Finland for ?Color Magic? which is due for delivery in September 2007.
The contract value is approximately 232 million euros ($272 million). The working title ?Color Line Superspeed? indicates that the ferries are designed for a high service speed. The 211 m long and 26 m wide vessels would each have 2,000 lane metres of vehicle space and carry 1,800 passengers.
