New rudder plant for KPM
Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) announced that its subsidiary company Kawasaki Precision Machinery Ltd (KPM) has completed the construction of a new ship rudder plant in Uiryeong, South Korea.
KPM?s rudder business in South Korea was previously operated through Dongmyong Industrial Co. but the technical alliance with Dongmyong was terminated in June this year. A new marine equipment division was established within Flutek and KPM is currently in the process of transferring control of its rudder business to this new division.
The new 3,200 m2 factory is situated in an industrial park in Uiryeong, and is a state-of-the-art design and capable of manufacturing over 150 rudders per annum for large-size ships. The new facility will act as a second rudder production centre after its main plant in Nishi-Kobe, Japan.
