VT Group PLC has confirmed that the boss of its shipbuilding division is in talks about leading the alliance that will build two new aircraft carriers for the Royal Navy.

The shipbuilder and support services provider said it had noted speculation that VT Shipbuilding managing director Peter McIntosh is being considered for the post of chief executive of the Alliance Management Team (AMT) for the Ministry of Defence Future Aircraft Carrier (CVF) project.

‘We can confirm that Peter is in discussions with the Ministry of Defence and that this could lead to his secondment,’ VT said in a statement. The loss is a serious one for VT as it was the shipbuilding arm that really helped it to a stronger performance for the first half with profits up 37%.
