ST Marine secures conversion contract

Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd (ST Marine), the marine arm of Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering), has secured a $17m contract from Chinese company BGP Inc. to convert a fishing trawler into a seismic research vessel.

BGP is one of the world?s leading onshore and shallow water geophysical service contractors based in China and is a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation. The project involves lengthening a 68m fishing trawler into an 83m seismic research vessel by adding two sponsons (side tanks), a new hanger deck and a helideck. Work will commence immediately and delivery is expected to take place towards the end of this year. The newly converted vessel will be the first seismic research vessel for BGP and will enable the company to enter offshore seismic survey sector.
