Concordia inks two more P-MAX Tankers

Concordia Maritime, the tanker arm of the Gothernburg-based Stena group, has signed a contract with Brodosplit Shipyard, Croatia, for the construction of a further two 49,900 dwt P-MAX ice-class product tankers. The contract is conditional on final approval being given by the boards of directors of Concordia Maritime and Brodosplit which is expected to be given in about a month.

The newbuildings, which will be nos. 7 and 8 in the P-MAX series, are expected to be delivered during the fourth quarter of 2009. Two of the initial six vessel series have been delivered, two will be delivered in 2006 and two at the end of 2007/beginning of 2008.

The MAX concept means that the vessels are designed for maximum loading capacity in shallow waters. In addition to having mandatory double hulls, they have been designed according to a new concept for safer oil transportation with double main engines in two completely separate engine rooms, double rudders and steering gear, two propellers and double control systems.
