Stocznia Gdanska ready to operate alone

Stocznia Gdanska in Poland would like to see the government agency and its own employees as the new investors of the shipyard by the end of May. Whoever the investors are, the company must start to operate on a stand-alone basis without Stocznia Gdynia.

Stocznia Gdynia hopes to receive offers from investors interested in its subsidiary Stocznia Gdanska before the end of this month. A consortium of state-owned entities including the Agency of Industrial Development and the Energa energy company has submitted an offer as well as Stocznia Gdanska Holding, a company founded by the shipyard?s staff.

The Gdansk yard has been trying to get new contracts in order to survive and a spokesman for the yard confirms that it hopes to receive orders to build a number of ships valued at $50 ? 60 million each. The yard plans to build 5 ships annually but the number may double. Sales, which last year amounted to $66 million, would grow much more, as well as the net income which amounted to $66,340 last year.
