MNP and Catfish sign order for chemical tankers

Volgograd Shipyard, a subsidiary of MNP Group, concluded a contract with the Swedish shipping company Catfish Forvaltning for the construction of two class II chemical tankers under project 4450. The contract includes two options.

The 4,500 dwt tankers will be driven by a single CP propeller and will have a maximum length of 91.90 metres, a breadth of 16 metres, depth of 7.80 metres and a 5.70 metre draught. Fitted with 14 cargo tanks (including two slop-tanks), it is capable of carrying up to 14 types of cargoes in a voyage, including crude oil, oil products, vegetable and animal oil and chemical cargoes.

Designed by Volga-Caspian PKB (design and construction bureau, Nizhniy Novgorod), the newbuildings will be classed by Germanischer Lloyd. This is a conceptually new design for the Volga-Caspian PKB, which has recently become a separate legal entity and is the first sea-going vessel of the reinforced ice class, constructed in Russia. The first vessel is scheduled for delivery by September of 2007 and the second by November 2007.
