Northrop Grumman awarded DDG 1000

Northrop Grumman Corp. has been awarded a $95.8 million contract for the detail design of the US Navy’s 21st century DDG 1000, formerly called the DD(X), destroyer. The contract, to be performed by the company’s Ship Systems sector in Pascagoula and Gulfport, includes the detail design and procurement of any vendor-furnished information to support the design.

The contract runs through September 2007. When fully funded, the contract will total more than $300 million through 2013. “This detail design contract allows our team to move one significant phase closer to the construction of this technologically advanced destroyer,” Brian Cuccias, Northrop Grumman vice president of DDG 1000, said.

“This is another huge step forward for the DDG 1000 program and for America’s future at sea,” Sen. Trent Lott said. “This is a landmark ship that’s poised to begin a new chapter in naval technology and tactics.”
