MHFCA established

The Marine Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Association (MHFCA) has been officially registered this week in Germany as a non-profit organisation and has already attracted over 120 organisations to pre-register for membership from around the world.

The nine founding members of MHFCA include: Randy Dey, of ISO, Canada; Panos Koroyannakis, of Islenet, Brussels; Icelandic New Energy general manager Jón Björn Sk?lason; Zebotec chief executive Richard Morris; Ballard Europe chief executive Geoffrey Budd; and Toddington Harper, chief executive of Fuel Cell Markets.

The organisation has been established with five core intentions.

Firstly, the MHFCA will aim to act as a platform for networking and the initiation of projects and secondly to develop a roadmap for the introduction of hydrogen in the marine sector.

The association will also work to identify important challenges caused by the changing environmental legislation and rising fuel prices, define barriers to the introduction of hydrogen as an energy carrier in the marine sector and identify priority actions.

The final aim of the body is to produce proposals to overcome barriers in the development of regulations, codes and standards for the use of hydrogen in marine applications.
