GL Academy in Dalian

Engineering services such as hydrodynamics, strength and fatigue, vibration, acoustics and experimental investigation will be presented by Germanischer Lloyd Academy at the Shiport China trade show in Dalian this week. In addition, the training institute of the Hamburg based classification society, GL Academy, will offer a full range of advanced seminar programmes for shipyard management.

The comprehensive technical services offered by GL cover the entire life cycle of vessels. Due to experts ready to assist in China as well as in the head office theoretical and experimental investigations can be conducted to improve performance. The demand of analysis and rectification of vibration problems has increased in a way that additional staff is available for support on short notice.

In addition to the engineering services, GL will present a new software tool for design offices and shipyards. With the new ?GL ShipLoad?, GL is able to offer a user-friendly program that computes the load spectra for reliable finite element analysis of a ship. The graphic user interface permits rapid and reliable application of ship, wave and cargo parameters to the FE model; hydrographic and hydrodynamic calculations are integrated. As a result of automated calculations, the ship designer is given selected, substantiated and realistic load assumptions that allow optimum dimensioning of the hull to meet safety requirements.

A workshop “Managing Newbuildings and More” presents an overview of the comprehensive maritime training programme by GL Academy. The seminars offer expert skills combined with wide-ranging practical experience. The courses convey the experience and know-how of GL and address technical and managerial challenges of shipyards.
