Kleven books largest order ever

Kleven Verft in Ulsteinvik, Norway, has, in cooperation with its associated company Myklebust Verft, signed contracts with Siem Offshore Inc in Kristiansand, Norway, for the building and delivery of six large and environmental friendly anchor handling vessels of the Vik Sandvik design VS 491 CD AHTS. The contracts include options for delivery of further six similar vessels.

The vessels are sophisticated anchor handling vessels with supply vessel capacities (AHTS) named VS 491 CD AHTS, designed by the Norwegian design company Vik Sandvik. The contractual value is $488 million, making it the largest single order in the history of Kleven Maritime.

The vessels will be 91.0 metres in length, with a beam of 22.0 metres. The 19,000 kW power plant will be configured for both diesel mechanical and diesel electric propulsion system which, in combination with the hull design, will represent efficient fuel consumption and reduced emission. The winch capacity will be 500 tonnes, the bollard pull is calculated at 300 tonnes and there will be a 750 m2 working deck. The combination of environmental friendly design and large capacity makes these vessels especially well suited for operations in the North Sea. The accommodation holds 60 persons. The vessels hulls will be reinforced to work in icy conditions, and furthermore be prepared for A-frame and ROV garage.

Delivery will be from May 2009 until March 2010, with optional vessels delivered in 2010.

Siem Offshore already has 4 contracts for deliveries at Kleven Verft. In total the two yards at Kleven Maritime now have orders for 27 vessels at a contract value of $1.3 billion.
