IHI delivers Japans largest boxship
Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” Line) has taken delivery of the new 8000TEU container vessel ?Humber Bridge? at the Kure Shipyard of IHI Marine United. This is the largest containership ever built in Japan. She is the lead-ship in an eight-ship series on order with IHI Marine United Inc.
The newbuilding incorporates a number of environmental and safety innovations in the vessel hull design and onboard equipment. The second sister ship will be delivered in November 2006, with the third and fourth ships to be delivered in the first half of 2007. The remaining 4 ships will then be delivered from the second half of 2008 through 2009. All eight ships will ply on the Asia/North Europe trade.
