Vancouver yard to upgrade ferry

B.C. Ferries has awarded a $40-million mid-life upgrade contract for the 5,863 gt ferry ?Queen of Alberni? to Vancouver Shipyards at its North Vancouver drydock.

B.C. Ferries says the 139-metre ship is the fifth vessel of its kind in the fleet to undergo a major upgrade at the Washington Marine Group shipyard. The extensive work on the 30-year-old vessel will include mechanical and safety improvements, as well as new passenger amenities.
