Nordseewerke building SWATH pair

Emden based shipbuilder Nordseewerke, a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, has won the contract to build two revenue cutters for the Procurement Agency of the German Federal Customs Administration. The first vessel is scheduled for delivery in November 2008 with the second one to follow in June 2009.

The 49m long by 19m wide cutters will be built according to the SWATH-principle which is a twin hull vessel with a very small displacement area on the waterline. This small waterline area creates a more stable platform with extremely good sea-keeping behaviour, even in case of heavy seaway.

For the Emden-based shipyard this commission means the consistent continuation of the SWATH family, begun with the SWATH-research vessel ?Planet?. The new project now takes advantage of all the experiences gained with this ship.

The boats will be built according to German Lloyd regulations.
