DSME and SHI clinch LNG orders

The Korean shipbuilders Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) have received order to build a total of nine LNG carriers.

DSME will build five of the gas carriers of which four 210,000 cbm have been ordered by Qatar Gas Transport Co (QCTC) and one 170,000 cbm for an unidentified European company at a total cost of $1.22 billion. The QCTC vessels will measure 315 m in length, 50m in breadth, 27m in depth and will have a speed of 19.5 knots.

SHI will build four 266,000 cbm LNG carriers for QCTC at a total cost of $1.14 billion. These Q-Max newbuildings will be 345m in length, 54m in breadth and 27m in depth.

Delivery for all these gas carriers is scheduled by the end of 2010.
