Samsung builds world?s biggest rig
Samsung Heavy Industries has completed the world?s largest offshore rig to be installed in seas off Russia?s Sakhalin Island. The rig, called ?Piltun B?, is 100 m wide, 105 m long and 120 m high. Construction of the 33,000 tonne rig started at Samsung?s yard in January 2004.
From June this year, the ?Piltun B? will be producing 70,000 tonnes of crude oil and 2.6 million tonnes of gas daily for the next 30 years. The rig is a drilling, processing and production platform that will extract oil and gas from the Piltun reservoir of the Piltun-Astokhskoye field off the northeast coast of Sakhalin Island. The order was placed by Sakhalin Energy Investment Co.
