DDDSC keen on setting up shipyard

Dubai Dry Docks and Shipping Company (DDDSC) is keen on setting up a shipyard in the vicinity of the deep-water port in Kakinada. Two technical teams of the company have already visited Kakinada for the past two months to study infrastructure available here. It is said that the teams have found the location between the fishing harbour and the Navy’s site as ?most suited? for ship building activity in view of the deeper water, less tidal waves and availability of men and materials.

Of 300 acres required, it has proposed to mobilise half of it by reclaiming the waterfront. The development gains importance in the light of L&T Company, the constituent unit of the consortium that is operating the deep-water port following privatisation, is reportedly having second thoughts on establishing the shipyard here.
