MCA detains eleven ships

The Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) in the UK detained eleven foreign ships in UK ports during July 2007 after failing Port State Control (PSC) safety inspection.

Latest monthly figures show that there were nine new detentions of foreign

flagged ships in UK ports during July 2007 and two vessels under detention from

the previous month. The overall rate of detentions compared with inspections

carried out over the last twelve months is 5.2% a slight increase on June’s

twelve month rate.

During the month of July 135 PSC inspections were carried out in the UK. A total of 39 vessels had no deficiencies raised against them, 64 had between one and five deficiencies, 20 had between six and ten deficiencies, 10 had between eleven and twenty deficiencies and there were 2 vessels inspected that had more than twenty deficiencies. Out of the detained vessels four were registered with flag states listed

on the Paris MOU white list, three were registered with states on the grey list and three were registered with flag states on the black list and one is not classified.

Vessels detained in July included a 13,635GT Panamanian flagged bulk carrier and a 17,13GT Antigua & Barbuda flagged general cargo vessel.
