Keppel wins second floatel contract

Keppel FELS, a subsidiary of the Singapore-based industrial conglomerate Keppel Corp, has won a $206 million contract from Floatel International Ltd to build a 500-man semi-submersible accommodation vessel. Delivery is scheduled for December 2010. This is the second contract awarded to Keppel FELS by Floatel in six months. The new floatels will be built to meet the most stringent rules and regulations for worldwide operation including the Norwegian North Sea sector. They will have an accommodation capacity for up to 500 men in single bed cabins and ample recreation areas as well as office facilities for client use. The large payload and deck area in combination with dual cranes able to support the host facility will make the vessels ideal for construction support during new construction, maintenance activities or for decommissioning project of offshore oil and gas installations. In addition to an eight point mooring system the floatels will also be equipped with DP3 capabilities, resulting in a safer, environmentally friendly, and more optimal and reliable unit. The new floatels are specially built for harsh environment and to meet the expanding global deepwater markets.
