Aker delivers another Conti boxship

Aker Yards Germany in Wismar and Rostock-Warnemünde delivered the fourth container vessel in a series of five of the newly developed type Aker CS 2100 container ships for Conti Reederei in Munich. The 30,750 DWT newbuilding was named Conti Arabella and will sail on its maiden voyage under its charter name CMA CGM Fortuna with destination Rotterdam to be integrated into a charter service of French ship owner CMA CGM between Europe, the Caribbean Sea and the North coast of South America.

The newly developed type Aker CS 2100, which can also be delivered in a shortened version as Aker CS 1900, is characterized by high and flexible container loading capacity (2,127 TEU), low fuel oil consumption and high reefer container capacity. Due to special equipment for safe transport of containerized refrigerated goods the ships of this type have the class notation RCP. The propulsion concept, consisting of two efficient 4-stroke engines of 10,395 kW each, coupled to a controllable pitch propeller via reduction gear, offers exceptional flexibility both for long sea passages and short-sea voyages where reduced ship speed is a vital part of the trade pattern. In this mode, one engine can be switched off and declutched while the other engine is running under optimal load levels at low emission and low fuel oil consumption. Service speed is 21.6 knots.
