MHI unveils Japans largest goliath crane

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) announced that the 1,200-ton goliath crane installed at the Koyagi plant of its Nagasaki Shipyard became operational this week. The crane is the largest in Japan today and, in combination with the existing 600-ton cranes at the yard, the Koyagi facility is now able to handle blocks as large as 1,500 tons. Coupled with other developments such as the expansion of its plant building, the annual construction capacity of the Koyagi plant will increase from five to seven LNG carriers.

The new crane measures 95.5 metres in height and 185 metres in breadth.
