Vietnam building largest boxships to date

Vinalines and Vinashinlines.

In November 2007 Ha Long Shipyard successfully launched the container ship ?Vinashin Dragon? in northern Quang Ninh Province. With its capacity of 1,730 TEU, it is the biggest container ship ever built in Vietnam. It is the first ship of a series of five ordered by Vinashin Lines and the project is supervised by GL.

GL has been pushing forward with new service offerings in Vietnam, and is operational at four locations. With orders for 30 container, multi-purpose and tanker ships at Vietnamese shipyards last year, GL said that all containerships built in Vietnam to date had been classed with GL and more than 70% of container vessels calling to Vietnamese ports carried the class sign GL.

Germanischer Lloyd has been represented in Vietnam since 1995, and today GL has offices in Vung Tau City, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Haiphong.
