Pertamina orders five tankers

Indonesia?s Pertamina has ordered five 30.000 dwt product oil tankers from China’s Zhejiang Chenye shipyard. These vessels will be the first newbuildings ordered by an oil company in South East Asia to comply with DNV’s environmental CLEAN class notation The vessels will be designed in accordance with IMO requirements for tanker safety, and comply with the CLEAN notation requirements for the protected location of oil tanks, emission of air and water, capacity of specific equipment and documentation of systems as well as operational procedures.

“One important way to reduce the likelihood of pollution is to avoid accidents, and to reduce consequences from accidents and this is what the CLEAN notation sets out to

achieve,” explains Pawan Sahni, DNV’s manager in Jakarta.

The five vessels, each worth $36.7million, are slated for delivery in 2010-2011. Pertamina currently has a fleet of 140 vessels, 36 of which it owns while the rest are leased.
