Daehan Shipbuilding christens first newbuilding

Daehan Shipbuilding recently celebrated the christening of its first 170,500dwt vessel, at its shipyard located in Haenam, Korea. The vessel has been christened ?MYSTIC?.

With a length of 289 metres and a 45 metre beam, she is the first in the series of eight Capesize bulk carrier ordered from the Norwegian Golden Ocean Group which contracted on November, 2006. The Mystic will be delivered to the owner on 27 June. The second vessel is 70% completed and is slated for delivery at the end of August

Daehan Shipbuilding, as a newly established shipbuilder, has surprised the industry by successfully delivering the first vessel on time and without any delay. Also, it has received a global recognition by building an eco-friendly ship that satisfies the standards of CSR of IACS for the first time in the Korean shipbuilding industry.

In addition, Daehan?s second block factory, Taejon Heavy Industries, capable of producing 150,000 tons of blocks annually, will start operating from the end of July. The company believes that having this second factory will help supply itself with 250,000 tonnes of blocks every year.
