Sealink bags barge contracts
Sealink International Bhd’s unit, Sealink Shipyard Sdn Bhd (SSSB), has secured two contracts worth RM62 million ($18 million) to construct the hulls for two 111-metre accommodation work barges for Singapore-based Swire Pacific Offshore Operations Pte Ltd.
The construction of the hulls will take place at the SSSB shipyard in Miri, Malaysia, and is expected to be completed by August 2009. However, to complete the barges, Sealink has entered into a strategic alliance with Penang Shipyard Sdn Bhd (PSSB), a unit of Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation Bhd (BHIC), which will undertake the work at its shipyard in Pulau Jerejak, Penang.
BHIC is currently constructing a total of four vessels including two 7,000 DWT oil and chemical carriers and two anchor handling tug vessels for Sealink.
