SCI in talks for shipbuilding

State-run Shipping Corp of India Ltd (SCI) is planning a foray into shipbuilding and is in talks with domestic and overseas firms for a joint venture, Chairman and Managing Director S Hajara said on Monday. “We are in talks with not only national but international shipbuilding organisations. More than that I can’t reveal,” Hajara said at the company’s annual general meeting.

“SCI is seriously contemplating getting involved in more than one shipbuilding greenfield project. We are convinced it’s time to get into shipbuilding, which is sort of a backward integration for us,” he added.
