Daewoo to deliver mega boxship to MSC

A new mega container ship from South Korea’s Daewoo shipyard will soon be named the ?MSC Danit?. The new 14,000 TEU vessel will be delivered only weeks after the 14,000 TEU ?MSC Daniella? came down the slipways of the Samsung Heavy Industry yards.

While the recently launched ?MSC Daniela? was built at a different shipyard, both vessels are 365.5 metres long and 51.2 metres at the beam, or 20 rows wide. The ?MSC Danit’s? superstructure is set forward, aft of eight container bays while its engine room and funnel are conventionally located one third aft.

By mid 2010, Daewoo will have build another five 14,000 TEU ships for MSC as well as deliver similar ships to Hamburg’s Claus-Peter Offen, believed to be for charter to the Geneva-based MSC.

When delivered in late February, the ?MSC Danit? will most likely join her owners’ Far East-Med Jade service, which is about to be upgraded from the 8,000-9,000 TEU to the 11,600-14,000 TEU-class of vessels.
