Bergen Group reduces Swedish business

Bergen Group has decided to reduce the business in Landskrona, Sweden. The company Bergen Group Landskrona (Landskronavarvet AB) became a part of the Bergen Group as a consequence of the acquisition of Fosen.

The company focuses on construction of ship hulls but only has work through the first half of 2009 for its 61 employees. The activity reduction means that 52 employees

will be made redundant in a gradual process. “The changed economic climate has caused one particular project, which we expected would be awarded to us, not to materialize due to the client’s lack of financing. Sweden has no temporary lay-off regulations such as Norway and other countries, and thus redundancies have been the only alternative even if the situation was temporary”, says VP Bergen Group Shipbuilding Inge Tangeraas.
