Reports from Germany suggest that the Schichau Seebeck shipyard (SSW) is to cease building ships.

The yard, which is going through bankruptcy proceedings, is expected to be converted into a business park for the maritime and wind power industries. Two of the former owners, shipbuilder Lloyd Werft and Ronner, a local steel company, will each own 25% of the new business, which will concentrate on repair work, construction of parts and modules for other shipyards, and maufacture of wind turbine components.

SSW also plans to rent out parts of the yard?s grounds and shops to wind power companies for their own production. Parts of the yard may be rented out to other companies involved in wind power. It is expected that the yards personnel will be employed under the new regime.
