Sustainable Shipping nominees announced

The companies and individuals shortlisted for the inaugural Sustainable Shipping awards have been announced. The awards, recognising, rewarding and celebrating those who have made significant strides in positively tackling increasingly vital environmental issues in shipping, will be presented in London on 15 July, at an event timed to coincide with the MEPC 59 meeting.

Five nominees have been shortlisted in six categories:

Ocean Environmental Protection Award:

Commercial Diving; JLMD Ecologic Group with CMA CGM; OceanSaver; Pure Ballast; Wartsila

Sustainable Shipping Operator of the Year:

CMA CGM; Foss Maritime; A.P. Moller-Maersk; Teekay; WWL

Clean Air Award:

Foss Maritime; International Paint; Port of Long Beach; Siemens AG; Wartsila

Environmental Awareness in Shipping Award:

Donald Gregory, Director, Exhaust Gas Cleaning System Association (EGCSA); John Aitken, Secretary-General, SEAaT; Dr Andre Stochniol, Founder, International Maritime Emission Reduction Scheme (IMERS); Stas Margaronis, President, Santa Maria Shipowning & Trading; Wallenius Water, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics

Environmental Technology of the Year:

DK Group; Alcatraz Cruises; Greenwave; Rolls Royce; Skysails

Green Shipping Initiative of the Year:

BMT Defence; Funnel Vision; Green Ship of the Future; A.P. Moller-Maersk; World Ocean Council.

These shortlisted nominees are now being judged by a group of industry figures, including:

Moller-Maersk (not judging in the categories where AP Moller-Maersk has been shortlisted); Vaughan Pomeroy, Technical Director, Lloyds Register; Dr Simon Walmsley, Head of Marine, WWF UK; Natalie Bruckner-Menchelli, Senior Editor, Sustainable Shipping.
