Samsung bidding for LNG-FPSO

Samsung Heavy Industries said on 16 June in a regulatory filing that it “is participating in the bidding process for Royal Dutch Shell’s LNG-FPSO construction project but the result is yet to be announced.” The statement said Samsung Heavy has set up a consortium with a French engineering company and would announce the bidding results within the next six months. Meanwhile, a local media reported that Samsung has won the front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract for the giant LNG-FPSO newbuilding project.

At the massive LNG-FPSO project are participating Hyundai Heavy Industries and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering as well as Samsung Heavy. In January this year, Samsung won an LNG-FPSO order from a European shipowner after it received four LNG-FPSO orders from Flex LNG last year. Samsung is the only shipbuilder in the world which has secured LNG-FPSO newbuilding orders.
