First Iranian-built boxship to be launched

The first Iranian-built ocean vessel named ‘Iran-Arak’ is ready to be launched according to local press reports. The 2,200 TEU container carrier is 185 m long, 30 m wide and has a deadweight of over 30,000 tonnes. It has been built at the Iran Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Company (ISOICO) at a cost of some 500 billion rials (about $50m). Two foreign companies have cooperated in the project.

The newbuilding is the first in a five-ship series which Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO) is scheduled to build.
