MAN gets Turkish powership engine order

MAN SE has won a contract with Karadeniz Powership Co. Ltd. of Turkey to supply up to 24 engines to be used to generate power-grid electricity from aboard ships.

MAN said the deal, worth more than euro100 million ($148 million), will also include electromechanical equipment necessary for electricity generation. Initially, 21 engines will be installed on board four former cargo vessels that are being converted to mobile diesel power plants. The ships, which have their own propulsion, will be able to travel, generate power and connect to local power grids to temporarily cover power demands where there is insufficient electric service.

Karadeniz Powership is expected to use the ships around the Mediterranean, Africa, Pakistan and other regions in the Middle East.
