American Club expands seafarer programme
At a time when the health and wellbeing of ships’ crews are the subject of increasing scrutiny, the American P&I Club has again expanded and further developed its Pre-Employment Medical Examination (PEME) programme.
With effect from January 1, 2010, new facilities have been authorised in Varna, Bulgaria.
In another change, the programme is at present mandatory only for seafarers originating from India, Indonesia, Latvia, the Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia and Ukraine. Effective from February 20, 2010, however, PEME will also be mandatory for club members to use the clinics in Varna for Bulgarian seafarers.
In addition, the club’s managers, Shipowners Claims Bureau, Inc., have approved additional clinics in Surabaya, Indonesia and Singapore in order to expand services in those countries.
An updated list of all American Club PEME approved clinics and required medical forms can be found under loss prevention on the club’s website – www.american-club.com
